Downtown Trashcan Painting Project

In Summer 2016, gallupARTS partnered with the Gallup Business Improvement District to put 27 artists to work beautifying downtown Gallup one trashcan at a time. Budding artists, seasoned artists, self-taught artists, professional artists, and artists of all backgrounds each put their unique spin on over 75 receptacles. Some trashcans were transformed into beautiful landscapes, others were made to celebrate Gallup’s diverse community and rich history. Some are bold and daring, others are soft and subtle. Once the trashcans were completed, 430 Gallupians cast their votes for their favorites and three winners were announced.
