“NEON & CHROME: The Visual Vocabulary of Historic Route 66”
New Mexico artists are invited to apply for inclusion in the Community Gallery’s SUMMER 2020 exhibit. All New Mexico artists interested in considering the myths, iconography, celebrity, history and eventual decay of America’s Main Street, Route 66, are encouraged to apply. “NEON & CHROME” will run from June through September 2020.
Artists working in all media (2D & 3D) are encouraged to submit an online portfolio here: https://form.jotform.com/93164001215140 . The deadline is 5 pm MST, Friday, January 17, 2020. For more information, please call 505-955-6707 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The intent of this exhibit is to inspire artists to explore the myriad visual methods that sites and businesses along the Mother Road implemented to attract visitors and differentiate themselves from everyone else. Artists will be asked to consider the myths, iconography, celebrity, history and eventual decay of America’s Main Street.
Artists will be asked to consider:
How did the automobile change tourism and exploration of the West?
What are examples of iconic Route 66 visual cues? Signage? Architecture? Graphic design?
What are some of the Route 66 sites in New Mexico?
