Opening on Saturday, July 8 from 7 – 9pm with a Preview & Artist Talk on Friday, July 7 from 6 – 8pm, Be Sargent’s retrospective at ART123 Gallery, “25 yrs 25 wrks,” will condense a quarter century of work into a 600 square foot space. It’s sure to be a show-stopper!
Featuring one work for each year from 1993 to the present, the show will take a look back over the last 25 years, illustrating the development of Be’s creative process. As for how her art has evolved over time, Be says, “I’m curious too,” anticipating how the show will come together. “25 yrs 25 wrks” focuses on Be’s fine art career. “There is another 25 years of corporate art and graphics that precedes them. I am ancient!” she says.
For the Preview & Artist Talk, Be will present the 25 works piece by piece, sharing the inspiration behind and her reflections on each. If we’re lucky, she’ll also share the one artwork from the last 25 years that seems “magical” to her in retrospect–yes, she does have a favorite!
What keeps Be motivated to continue creating? “The dream of doing something better,” she says. For emerging artists, she has this advice: “The great luxury is to be able to work every day. Somehow you have to make your job allow you to do your art. It is tricky but possible and essential.”
