Marina Eskeets @ Shallow Gallery

March 12, 2017 @ 8:00 am - April 7, 2017 @ 11:30 pm

See Dine’ artist Marina’s Eskeets latest work incorporating found objects and Dine’ elements at the Shallow Gallery.

Artist Bio: Living next to an abandoned uranium mine on the Navajo Nation and the border town Gallup, New Mexico, as a Diné (Navajo) lady, I am inspired to make work from these experiences through an Indigenous perspective. I draw from the many layers of the psychological, cultural, political, institutional, and environmental consciousness. My work is conceptual based and material is quite important. The combination of found objects and traditional Diné (Navajo) materials are essential to my practice. Continuous themes are energy extraction within Dinétah (Navajo Nation) and identity through the unadorned of the everyday. As a studio artist and photographer I intend to decolonize one’s thought process about the western world.
