Ashton S. Phillips

Ashton S. Phillips is an award-winning plein air and studio painter living in Gallup, New Mexico. Ashton recently moved to the Southwest from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and exhibited his plein air and portrait works at Gallery 128, the Fleisher Art Memorial, and other venues.

The powerful golden and rose-hued light and the dramatic skies and geological features of his new home region have inspired new directions and energy in Ashton’s work. In particular, Ashton is currently exploring the power of palette-knife techniques, colorist palettes, and abstraction to capture the vibrant and rich spirit of his new home.

Ashton is represented by the Copper Top Gallery in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is an artist member of the Art123 Gallery in Gallup, New Mexico, and the Old School Gallery in El Morro, New Mexico. In addition to these venues, Ashton has shown his work in juried shows and group exhibits around the region, including at the New Mexico Art League and the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Ashton is an artist member of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, the Plein Air Painters of Colorado, and Arizona Plein Air Painters, and a regular participant in plein air festivals around the region.
